The organising committee of the NIWA Manukau Region Science and Technology Fair are a group of volunteers, made up primarily from teachers, sponsors and other enthusiasts.
Each participating school should provide a representative at the science fair meetings. This ensures you are informed of events and are supported by the team. Meetings are usually held on Wednesdays at 4:15pm in the Mission Heights Junior College staff room. Dates are determined as needed.
We begin in March with setting up of venues, pamphlets, sponsors, publicising to schools and this website. We manage the registration and set up day. We organise the team of judges. We collate all the information from judging and organise the prize giving. The committee is a group dedicated to the promotion of science and in rewarding our young people who show initiative and passion in this area.
As a committee member, the expectations of involvement are:
- Participating in meetings (approx 6 from February through to August)
- Volunteering some of the day on the Saturday of the Fair when displays are flooding in.
- For teachers: Coordinate the collection of your students’ displays on collection day
- Specialist skills that you might bring, such as design, accounting, web development, administration are appreciated
