- When is the Science Fair?
The Science Fair is in August every year (22nd of August in 2025).
- When can I register my project?
Usually, registrations open around the 1st of August. Keep an eye on our website for important dates.
- Can teachers register on behalf of students ?
No. In the past, this has caused banking and prize money distribution issues. We must have students’/caregivers’ email addresses to verify correct bank details.
- I haven’t registered for Science Fair, can I still bring my project in?
No. As it will not be on our database, the project will not be eligible for judging or prizes.
- I missed the registration cut-off date, can I still bring my project in?
No. As it will not be on our database, the project will not be eligible for judging or prizes.
- Is there an upper – limit for the numbers of projects that can be entered per school?
Yes – 20 projects per school. This is to provide every school an equal opportunity to participate in the Fair, bearing in mind that the venue has limited space
- Can my parents/caregivers supervise me at the venue on judging day if my teacher is not available?
No. All school groups MUST be supervised by a teacher/staff member from the associated school.
- What if no teacher can supervise us?
If a school is unable to send a staff member to supervise their students, the school is exempt from prizes (disqualified).
- How many people can be in a group for a project?
No more than 3 people. Prizes are awarded to the project and then divided by how many participants. For example, if the project wins $50 and there are 3 people, then each person gets $16.
- When can my project be dropped off?
Projects must be dropped off to the venue on the drop off date. Committee members will also sign in the project with your personalised QR code on the labels. At 7pm on Thursday, the database for projects eligible for prizes is closed.
- Can my caregivers/teachers be present during my interview with the judges?
No. Unless a support person or teacher-aid is required according to the MOE (for example KDEC or BLENNZ).
- Why can I not bring my project with me on Judging Day?
The bulk of the judging occurs before students arrive. Thus the interviews with students are for specific questions the judges have about the project that they earlier read. Any projects that arrive during this interview process is not eligible for prizes.
- Why can’t I take my project home with me after I have been judged?
In the afternoon, another round of judging occurs, specifically for special awards and Top in Fair. Projects need to remain in the venue for this.
- Can I pick up my project before the designated pick -up time?
No. Judging for special category prizes and Top in Fair along with verification of prizes occurs and concludes at 3:40pm. Any projects that are picked up before this time will not be eligible for any prizes.
- Prizes: How big are the prizes?
As we are a charitable organization, prizes fluctuate yearly based on sponsorship. This ensures continuity of the fair.
- Prizes: I gave the wrong details during registration and someone else received my award. Will you still give me my award?
No. If you made an error during registration, you are responsible for your error.
- What happens at Prizegiving?
Prizegiving is a celebratory event in recognition of the hard work that students have put into their projects. Friends and family will be invited to celebrate your success.
