2013 Premier Winner selected for Realise the Dream

Congratulations to our Premier Winner Chris Ryan, from Howick College, who has been selected to attend Realise the Dream.Chris Ryan and Project

He submitted his project “Kawakawa Demonstrates Anti-inflammatory Activity “ about the medicinal properties of the Kawakawa plant.

Realise the Dream is a prestigious national event which rewards and celebrates 20 secondary school students who have undertaken an excellent piece of science research, technology or an electronics/robotic/computer science project.

Students who are selected for Realise the Dream are rewarded with an all-expenses paid week-long trip to attend the event. Realise the Dream starts in Auckland on 8 December and then travels down through the North Island finishing in Wellington where an awards function will take place at Government House. There are some huge prizes that are announced at the awards evening which include cash scholarships and international travel.

The trip will involve visiting science institutions where they will be hosted by organizations such as the Liggins Institute, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare; Dairy NZ, AgResearch, Massey University and NIWA. The students will also be involved in various team building challenges and social events.

The Royal Society is indeed grateful of the support of Genesis Energy (the principal sponsor) and DairyNZ and the New Zealand Commission for UNESCO who also sponsor the event. The Royal Society would also like to thank the many science organizations who host the students and prepare workshops for them during the week.

2013 Judging Completed

Judging has finished for the 2013 Fair. Thanks to all those who participated. A big thank you also to our judges, who have come from many specialist areas relating to science and technology, and given up their time to assist to make the day a success.

Prize winners will be notified by email within a couple of days. Details will be included relating to the prize giving ceremony.

2013 Registrations Open

Registrations for the 2013 Fair are now open and close at 11:00pm on Thursday 15th August.

2012 Judging Completed

Judging was completed today. What a wonderful day with an exceptional range of projects to view! Thanks to all those exhibitors, judges and organisers who made it such a good event. Thanks also to those parents and supporters who made it possible for exhibitors to be there.

Prize winners will be notified within 1-2 days of the Fair.

The Fair will be open for public viewing on Monday 6th August from 9am to 8pm at Mission Heights Junior College, 103 Jeffs Road, Mission Heights. Map.
